How to Find Windows 8 Product Key

if you reinstall Windows 8 system after your computer is infected with a virus, malware, spyware, etc.you should have your Windows 8 Product Key.

We won’t judge you for whatever reason you could possibly want to find your Windows 8 product key, but chances are at some point during the life of your computer, you may need it, whether to verify you have a legit copy of Windows (assuming you do), or it is to reinstall Windows. By now you have probably realized that Microsoft no longer has a sticker anywhere on the computer listing the version of Windows as well as the product key. This is true for Windows 8 and onwards.

At any rate, finding your Windows 8 product key isn’t as easy as looking it up in some Windows program. Microsoft, for some reason or another, has made it very hard to figure out what the product key of your Windows 8 operating system is. Unfortunately, this has always been the case with Windows and many speculate that it could be in an attempt to cut down on piracy. Thankfully, there are ways to find out what that key is.
If you just need to verify the last five digits of your product key, you can find this information by going to the Start page, typing Computer, right clicking on the Computer icon and selecting Properties from the menu. Your computer properties will open up listing things such as your Windows Experience Index, processor, installed RAM, system type and the computer name.

Under the Windows activation area you should see a something saying Windows is either activated or not activated. If it is activated, the link next to it will say “View details in Windows Activation.” Clicking on that link will open up another window that will display the current edition of Windows, the last five digits of your product key and the date it was activated on.

Extract Product Key from Registry
If you need to the entire product key, you will have to extract it from Microsoft’s registry hive. In order to do this, you will need a program. There are a number of programs that can do this for you but we will walk you through the process using Belarc Advisor. Since you cannot manually locate your Windows 8 product key in the registry, you will need a program to extract it.

Begin by downloading Belarc Advisor. Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the on screen prompts until the program has been successfully installed. Once installed, run the program. The initial find finding of the product key may take a while so be patient. Once the program has found the product key it will be displayed. Write down the keyword letter for letter, number for number as it appears. Go over it a couple times to make sure it is exactly as displayed. It doesn’t matter whether you replace capital with common case letters as Windows will convert a common case to capital case letters. Save the product key in safe location in the event that you may need to reinstall Windows 8 again.

ComboFix can be installed currently on  Windows XP/Vista/2000/7  Not on windows 8
